Mortex or tiles in the bathroom?

Mortex is a mineral finish based on lime and cement. It is applied in thin layers and gives a seamless wall or floor. In a bathroom that brings calm: no joints, one continuous surface.
Where mortex shines
- No joints, so fewer places where dirt can settle.
- It can be applied over existing tiles if the substrate is stable.
- Every wall gets its own hand-made texture.
What to look out for
Mortex must be well protected with a varnish, especially in the shower. It also needs a craftsman who knows the material. Tiles are cheaper per square metre and more forgiving.

Combining often works best
In this bathroom we chose mortex for the walls, an epoxy floor and a ceramic washbasin with a marble look. That gives you the calm of mortex, with a strong accent as an eye-catcher.
